Sutro Tower digital antenna conversion schedule

June 9th, 2009 06:07pm Jim Schuyler

As of 11:59 pm Friday, June 12th, all analog television transmissions will be discontinued.  Stations will be broadcasting only digital signals.   Sutro Tower stations will broadcast on the same antennas they are now using for digital transmission with the exception of KGO-TV Channel 7.

KGO-TV will broadcast on a new auxiliary antenna during some parts of the work day from Monday, June 15th through Wednesday, June 17th.  Beginning Thursday, June 18th, KGO-TV will operate full time on the auxiliary antenna for 4-5 weeks while the old main analog antenna is removed and a new main digital antenna is installed at the top of the tower.

Since analog transmissions will be discontinued and KGO-TV operates at a much lower power than the other stations, the R-F exposure will be the same or lower than it is today.

After the new KGO antenna is installed, new main antennas will be installed at the top of the tower for the other stations.  This may require some or all stations to operate on auxiliary antennas during some parts of some work days.  You will be notified with a more specific schedule in a few weeks.
Before multiple stations begin using the auxiliary antenna,  R-F exposure will be measured to insure levels are below Federal Communications Commission safety standards.  You will be notified when these measurements are scheduled.

As many of you know, the City has been meeting with groups throughout the City to get their feedback and input on the 2009 Housing Element update. We want to hear directly from residents about their issues and needs related to housing, so that the 2009 update really does reflect the diversity of our City’s viewpoints and incorporates policy ideas that address these issues and needs.

We’ve finally found a date and location we hope will work for the neighbors in the West of Twin Peaks area:

Projected $128.9 Million Deficit Requires Difficult Decisions

The SFMTA Board of Directors will be considering a broad range of options to increase revenues and reduce costs.

At its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 7 at 2 p.m. in Room 400 at City Hall, the SFMTA Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on proposals to balance the budget. Details of the proposals are available online and include: (more…)
